The real Ruben Sandwich was first made in Lincoln, Ne at the Cornhusker Hotel and the chefs name was Rebinsdorf. You put the corn beef on Dark Russian Rye Bread and you mix the thousand island dressing in with the drained sourkraut. You butter both the inside and the outside of the bread. First comes swiss cheese, then corn beef and then the sourkraut. Then these sandwiches and grilled. You are close but try it on black rye bread.
