The Idiot's Guides: Baking cookbook is one of the most comprehensive guides to baking that is out there. It is a great resource for experienced bakers, as well as, those who are baking their very first cake.
The cookbook is extremely well-formatted for easy reading and references. It is broken into five parts: The Essentials, Cookies, Eggs, Pies/Tarts/Cakes, and Breads. Each of these larger parts are then broken into subsections with the recipes listed below.
If you are a beginning baker, then the first part of the book will be very informative. It breaks down everything you need to know regarding baking equipment, ingredients, and how to measure properly. We liked this section because it explains why and how each component is important when baking. Every additional part and section has step-by-step instructions with many pictures to help explain the techniques and what the recipe should look like. Additionally, there are plenty of tips and substitutions scattered throughout the cookbook. Each page has something new to learn about the world of baking!
This is the perfect reference cookbook for baking, though highly experience bakers may find the recipes a little too basic. The cookbook focuses on the techniques behind every sweet treat, but does not have a huge amount of recipes. However, the cookbook is a great guide for developing your own recipes from the foundational recipes featured.
This cookbook should be in every home since beginners and experience bakers can benefit. This is the perfect cookbook to give as a wedding shower gift, housewarming gift, or birthday gift! Even the most advanced bakers will learn something new while reading this Idiot's Guides: Baking cookbook.
